Tote and Gloat

Nothing like spending a day with other quilters.  Rose City Quilters in Palmerston North held their annual Tote and Gloat event last Saturday.  Its like attending a massive club day with lots of merchants and about 500 quilters/shoppers.
There were quite a few club challenges.  Follow this link to view the winning quilts.

Also on display were the Aotearoa  Best of New Zealand ‘Flight’ Challenge.  20 quilts currently touring the country.  I feel its best that I do not post all my photographs of these quilts until such time as they have completed touring. To view the quilts touring schedule please follow this link.

I am sure there will be an article on these clever quilts in the Next Issue of the New Zealand Quilter magazine.

Here are just two of the 20 quilts on tour.

Revenge of the Birds by Claire Smith

Close up of center.  Notice the clock parts on the birds.  Very clever.

All the merchants had inspiring quilts with lots of colour on display.  This is Quilters Lane from Masterton.

Rose City Quilters had a display "30 years of Viewers Choice".  It was amazing to view quilts from the 1990s through to 2015 that were chosen by viewers.  Here are just a few.

Christmas Cracker by Wendy O'Neill

Sheryl Meech 2005 ( I didn't note the name of this quilt).  Very Kiwi

Opposites by Lorna Newsome 2008

The show and tell was inspiring.  Quilters from a range of clubs from Palmerston North down to Wellington showed their quilts which were then hung and displayed.  Here are just a few.  I do not have the names of the makers.

Goodnight  by Debbie Jacques.
This conjures up childhood memories when TV would close down late at night.
Won the Advanced section of the "page out of a book" challenge.

I am definitely going to Tote and Gloat again next year.  Its great to catch up with quilters from other regions and see their work.  Very inspiring.
