QAYG and my latest gadget

Today's class was held at Krazy Cow in Levin.  It is located at the south entrance to the town in an old railway station.  I think it's pretty cool.  Stitching away with the occasional rumble of trains coming past.

Krazy Cow Is a quilting store with the addition of knitting yarns, small haberdashery and sewing machines for sale.  Trish offers a quilting service.  Her current website is about to have a revamp.

I got engrossed playing with student blocks and I forgot to take photos.  I missed a few. Here's what I did photograph.

My latest gadget is this folding ruler.  Great for the travelling quilter.  I am happy with it. The key is to ensure you are using it on a flat surface.

It is available in most quilting stores.

QAYG with Capital Quilters

Great class today with Captial Quilters in Lower Hutt and with the large number of blocks created, we had fun playing around with block layouts.

Next class is at Krazy Cow in Levin on the 11th June and Sawmillers in Te Marua 18th June.

Tote and Gloat

Nothing like spending a day with other quilters.  Rose City Quilters in Palmerston North held their annual Tote and Gloat event last Saturday.  Its like attending a massive club day with lots of merchants and about 500 quilters/shoppers.

Rose City Quilters had a display "30 years of Viewers Choice".  It was amazing to view quilts from the 1990s through to 2015 that were chosen by viewers.  Here are just a few.

The show and tell was inspiring.  Quilters from a range of clubs from Palmerston North down to Wellington showed their quilts which were then hung and displayed.  Here are just a few.  I do not have the names of the makers.

I am definitely going to Tote and Gloat again next year.  Its great to catch up with quilters from other regions and see their work.  Very inspiring.

 

Quilt As you Go - Coastal Quilters

I had fun weekend teaching two Quilt as You Go classes for Coastal Quilters in Plimmerton, New Zealand.

Now for something a little different - Alison has made this amazing sewing machine cover.

Contains a tin with pins another sewing notions.

This is Alison's own design.  Very clever
and unique.

12th May - A wee update.  Alison had turned her QAYG blocks into a hexagon baby quilt.
